Every year since 2013 Sports Clips has been the primary supporter and contributor to the VFW's "Sports Clips Help A Hero Scholarship" Program. This scholarship goes to Veterans and Service Members who are seeking to further their education at post-secondary schools or trade schools. To date, there have been more than 2,050 scholarships given totaling more than $9.2 million awarded!
Who Is Eligible?
To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Retired, Honorably Discharged, Active Duty, or a member of the National Guard or Reserve.
- Must have completed Basic Training and Follow-on Training (Advanced Individual Training, Tech School, etc.).
- Separated with, or currently holding, a military rank of E-5 or below.
- Demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
- Participate in, be accepted to, or currently enrolled in a VA-approved program or school at an accredited post-secondary institution.
When Can You Apply?
Applications from qualified applicants are accepted during these time periods:

For the Fall Semester:
January 1st through April 30th
Fall Semester Scholarships will be awarded in August. |
| For the Spring Semester:
August 1st through November 15th
Spring Semester Scholarships will be awarded in January. |
Please note that scholarships will be awarded directly to the accredited institutions.

Additional Information
- Scholarships of up to $5,000 are awarded to qualified recipients.
- Scholarships are limited to 1 person per family per semester.
- The scholarship must be used by the end of the semester the Veteran/Service Member has applied for or the scholarship will be null and void.
- The Scholarship is restricted to being used for tuition fees and will only be paid directly to
- accredited schools.
Sports Clips locations all around the country collect in-store donations to help contribute to this program and on every Veteran's Day (November 11th) locations provide free haircuts to Veterans and Active Service members as well as donate $2 from for every cut provided on that day. This is a wonderful opportunity because The VFW and Sports Clips understand the difficulties that pursuing further education can have and want to help with that and help those who have served or are currently serving achieve their goals.
