VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN

Founded January 7, 1925, the VFW National Home for Children was created in order to fulfill the pledge of "honor the dead by helping the living". The National Home was initially created as a place where families that were left behind from war could remain intact as a family even if their Serviceman did not return. It's purpose has grown to accommodate the needs of the families of today: reintegration, PTSD, high unemployment, rehabilitation from battlefield injuries, and more. While it was only a old frame farmhouse, the VFW National Home for Children has vastly grown into a sprawling campus with playgrounds, parks, single family homes, a community center, a gym, a childcare facility, a guest lodge, a chapel, and administrative buildings!
